Privacy
What we keep, and why.
The short version: there are no ads, no trackers, no analytics and no cookies here, and you never need an account. Your games are saved in your own browser. When you play together, our server keeps what the group shares, and nothing more.
Who is responsible
All the games you need is run by Geo. Geo is responsible for the personal data described here (its “controller”, in the words of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation). To reach us about it, use the form at the bottom of this page.
On your own device
Every game saves itself in your browser’s own storage, on the device you play on: your progress, settings, scores, streaks, tickets and prizes. So does the group you are in, as a member number and a secret key, and the shared farm you last played. Puzzlopolis also keeps a copy of its own files there, so the daily puzzles work offline.
None of this is sent to us, except what is described below when you play with other people. Clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes all of it, saves included.
On our server, only when you play together
Your games never reach our server unless you start or join a group, or share a farm. Then it keeps:
- A group: its name; each member’s chosen name and colour, and when they joined and last opened it; their daily puzzle results for the last 45 days; their best scores on the arcade machines and in Blocks; and the group’s news, reactions and pokes. Your secret key is kept only as a scrambled fingerprint (a hash), never as itself. A link that adds another of your devices stops working after 30 minutes.
- A shared farm: the farm itself, and each farmer’s name and look.
- A group’s pizzeria: the shared career, and each cook’s name and look.
- A group’s expedition: what the group has found, classified and built, its logbook and beacons (with who dropped them), and each diver’s name.
We keep these to run what you asked for: playing together needs the server to hold what the group shares. They are kept for as long as the group or farm exists. Leaving a group cuts your devices off from it, but your name stays on the results you already shared with it; ask us, and we delete them.
No game asks for your real name. A nickname works everywhere.
When you write to us
The “Ask for a game” form on the home page keeps what you write, the name you give if you give one, and when you sent it. The form on this page keeps what you ask for, the group or farm it is about, where to answer you if you say, and when you sent it. We keep these to read and answer them; ask, and we delete yours.
Server logs, and keeping the site safe
Like nearly every website, our web server writes a line for each request it answers: the address it came from (an IP address), the time, the page asked for, the page that linked to it and the browser’s name. These logs are kept for 14 days, then deleted, and are used only to keep the site running and safe.
To stop anyone flooding the forms or making groups by the hundred, the server also remembers the address a form or a new group came from, in memory only, for an hour at most. It is never written down.
What we never do
- Show ads, or let anyone else show them.
- Track you, profile you, or use analytics of any kind.
- Set cookies.
- Load anything from another company: every script, picture and font comes from our own server.
- Sell what we keep, or share it with anyone outside the site.
Your rights
You can ask us what we keep about you, and have it corrected or deleted. You can also object to how we use it, or ask us to stop. We answer within one month. To find a group or a farm, we need its invite link or its ID, which is also how we know it is yours. If you think we have got something wrong, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
The games are for everyone, and none asks for anything that says who you are. If you are a parent and would like something your child put here removed, use the form below.
Changes
If what the site keeps ever changes, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
Ask about your data
To see, correct or delete what we keep, tell us here. There is nothing to sign up for.
